Woman charged with leaving scene of Bay Shore crash that injured teen bicyclist

BAY SHORE, LONG ISLAND, NY – Police on Long Island say a woman left the scene after hitting a teenage bicyclist with her pickup truck over the weekend, according to Newsday.

21-year-old Jocelin Nunez Martinez of Bay Shore was arrested following the incident, which took place Saturday on West Main Street in Babylon at about 5 p.m. According to Suffolk County Police, Martinez was driving a Nissan Titan and hit the 15-year-old bicycle rider as he was heading south on the roadway. The teenager, a Babylon resident, was seriously injured and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Center in West Islip.

Martinez kept going after the accident but a short time later police officers apprehended her, authorities said. She was located at the intersection of Fire Island Avenue and Lewis Circle.

Martinez now faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a forged instrument and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident and impounded the Nissan for a safety check.
