UPDATE: 3 Animals Injured in Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge Accident Rescued From Slaughter

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Following yesterday’s accident between a cement truck and livestock truck on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge that caused major delays, three animals have been transported to an animal sanctuary. One sheep died in the crash, and two sheep and a calf were injured.

According to ABC7, the injured animals received medical treatment in New York City before being released to an animal sanctuary, Skylands Sanctuary. Seventeen animals involved in the crash were not injured and have been delivered to their original destination, a slaughterhouse. This incident has prompted calls for increased animal rights legislation, especially concerning the transportation of livestock.
