BELLMORE, LONG ISLAND, NY – Three people were injured in a chain-reaction crash involving a tractor-trailer in Nassau County on Friday night, reports Newsday.

The truck driver, 38-year-old David Gonzalez of Perth Amboy, was arrested following the wreck on Sunrise Highway in Bellmore. Nassau County Police said Gonzalez slammed into a vehicle that was stopped in a left-hand turn lane near the intersection with Bellmore Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. That vehicle then collided with another vehicle that was in the same lane.

Gonzalez and a 59-year-old driver in the vehicle he initially struck were both hospitalized at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. The 56-year-old of the other vehicle sought treatment from his own doctor for neck and back injuries.

Gonzalez was charged with two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

He was released after being arraigned Saturday at First District Court, and was scheduled to return to court Aug. 31.
