BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – Police said a school bus driver is facing charges after an accident in which a teenage girl was struck and killed in Brooklyn Monday morning, according to WCBS.

The 15-year-old victim was crossing a street in the Midwood section of the borough at about 8 a.m. when she was hit by a bus making a turn from Avenue P onto Bedford Avenue. Police responded and found the girl in the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said the teen had the right-of-way and was walking in the crosswalk at the time she was hit.

The bus driver left the scene after the incident but through the use of surveillance video, investigators were able to identify the bus and find the driver, identified as 55-year-old Aleksandr Patlakh.

He surrendered to police and told them he was not aware he had hit the girl. Patlakh has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care. He was released after being issued a desk appearance ticket.
