Pedestrian struck, injured by delivery truck on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN, NY – A pedestrian was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a delivery truck at an intersection in Manhattan on Wednesday night, the New York Post reports.

The incident happened in the area of West 73rd Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side at about 7:30 p.m. According to police, the pedestrian was struck by a DHL van headed south on Broadway while he was trying to walk across the intersection.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital with head trauma and was listed in critical condition.

WABC reports that a suspected drunk driver was behind the wheel of the truck involved.  The driver, identified as 27-year-old Brenden Arzu, was arrested and now faces charges of DWI and vehicular assault.

The accident remains under investigation by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad
