NEW YORK, NY – A multi-vehicle accident on the George Washington Bridge early Wednesday morning snarled traffic for New York City commuters and left five people injured, according to a report by WABC.
The wreck occurred on the New York side of the bridge at about 12:15 a.m., and reportedly involved two vehicles and a tanker truck. Due to the impact, the two cars involved in the collision ended up on a pedestrian walkway with one of them overturning.
Of those people who were injured, two of them had to be extricated from their cars. There was no immediate word on the conditions of the victims.
All but one lane of the upper level of the bridge heading into New York City was shut down for the crash investigation, resulting in massive rush hour delays amounting to up to two hours. Drivers of cars and buses were advised to take the lower level of the bridge, while truck drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
