Man charged with DWI in Long Island car accident that killed passenger

ELMONT, LONG ISLAND, NY – A suspected drunk driver was taken into custody following a deadly car accident on Long Island early Friday morning, reports Newsday.

Nassau County Police said 40-year-old Kwesi Williams was driving a BMW sedan south on Elmont Road when the wreck occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Williams crashed into a parked car, and the BMW then flipped and hit a utility pole.

A 33-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not immediately released. Williams was also hospitalized, but no details were released on the extent of his injuries.

Williams, a Queens Village resident, has now been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Police said he would be arraigned when it is medically practical.
