HAVERSTRAW, ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY – Police say they have arrested a suspected hit-and-run driver in connection with a fatal crash in Rockland County last week, the Journal News reports.
43-year-old Sugundi Landi-Lucer of Queens was facing charges of criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The arrest followed the death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning.
The victim, 75-year-old Juan Germosen of Haverstraw, was walking across Route 9W near Fairmount Avenue in Haverstraw when the incident occurred at about 4:45 a.m. The driver fled the area following the crash.
Investigators released surveillance video of the white Ford Explorer believed to have struck Germosen. The vehicle was described as likely missing the passenger side mirror with damage to the front passenger side bumper.
The investigation led to Landi-Lucer, 43, who was taken into custody in Queens on Wednesday. Rockland County Executive Ed Day released a statement that read in part, “”It is my hope that the family of Juan Germosen can rest more easily tonight knowing the person allegedly responsible for his death is now behind bars and that justice will be quickly served in this case.”
He thanked New York State police, the NYPD, and police in Haverstraw and Clarkstown for their assistance in making the arrest.
