ROOSEVELT, LONG ISLAND, NY – Police arrested a Long Island woman who allegedly drove drunk and crashed Sunday night with her two children in the car, according to Newsday.
Police said 31-year-old Sheila Jadick of Westbury was driving a Mercedes Benz at about 9:25 p.m. when she collided with a parked unoccupied tow truck in the area of Babylon Turnpike and Cumberland Avenue in Roosevelt. Responding officers found Jadick holding her 4-year-old daughter who was bleeding from a laceration on the forehead, while her 3-year-old son was standing with her.
The children were taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries and were then released to a family member. Jadick was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Nassau County Police said investigators determined that Jadick had been driving under the influence. She was charged with two counts of DWI – Leandra’s Law, one count of DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Leandra’s Law makes it a felony, to drive drunk with a child under age 16 in the vehicle.
