HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND – The New York State Police responded to the scene of a fatal two-car collision on Long Island early Saturday morning.

State Police issued a news release on the incident that happened on the Southern State Parkway eastbound in the town of Hempstead, Nassau County.

Investigators said 36-year-old Zeeshan Naeem was driving a 2011 Ford Mustang eastbound on the parkway west of exit 15A at about 5 a.m. when he crashed into the back of a 2018 Mercedes Benz. The impact caused the Mustang to go off the roadway and onto the right shoulder, where it overturned and collided with a tree.  The Mercedes also left the roadway onto the right shoulder and hit a tree.

Naeem, a resident of North Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Mercedes, 37-year-old Bestrim Asllani of Jamaica, Queens, was taken to Winthrop Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.  There were no passengers in either vehicle.

State Police are continuing to investigate the crash and asked any witnesses or anyone with further information to contact them.
