HARRISON, NEW YORK, NY – The victims of a multi-vehicle crash in Westchester County Thursday were identified as a husband and wife from upstate New York, reports the Journal News.
The two were 62-year-old David A. Massarotti and 60-year-old Chandra Massarotti of Richmondville, authorities said. The incident occurred on Interstate 287 east between Exit 10 and Exit 11 in Harrison at about 8:25 a.m.
New York State Police said David Massarotti was driving a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck when he slowed down for traffic in the right lane. A Chevrolet 4500 dump truck hauling a cement mixer that was traveling in the same lane hit the pickup from behind. The Colorado then rear-ended a Honda Accord Crosstour, which hit a Chevrolet Express van. The van crashed into a Jeep Cherokee.
David and Chandra Massarotti were pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old Ossining man who was driving the dump truck was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Accord driver, a 42-year-old Connecticut man, was not seriously injured.
The dump truck driver was issued tickets, police said, and was reported to be cooperating with investigators.
Eastbound lanes on I-287 were blocked for the crash investigation before reopening over five hours later.
