BROOKHAVEN, LONG ISLAND – Police said a driver was seriously injured when her car collided with a truck on the Long Island Expressway early Thursday morning.
According to Newsday, the accident happened on the westbound LIE near Exit 67 in Brookhaven at about 5:25 a.m. Suffolk County Police said a 53-year-old woman was driving her 2015 Nissan west when the car crashed into the back of a 2016 Kenwood tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic in a construction zone.
The Nissan driver, identified as Josephine Carroll of Bethpage, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. The tractor-trailer driver, 52-year-old Frank Sicurella of Port Jefferson Station, was not injured.
The westbound lanes of the LIE were shut down between Exit 68 and Exit 67 for over four hours following the wreck. Traffic was diverted at Exit 68 for William Floyd Parkway.
The Nissan was impounded for a safety check, while the tractor-trailer was inspected at the scene.
