Driver killed in collision with truck at Suffolk County car dealership

SAINT JAMES, LONG ISLAND, NY – A driver was killed when his vehicle collided with a truck on Long Island early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Suffolk County Police issued a news release on the incident that occurred on 780 Middle Country Road in Saint James. According to investigators, 33-year-old Robert Greene was driving a 2012 Ford Taurus eastbound on Middle Country Road at about 3:35 a.m. when his vehicle struck a 2022 International tractor trailer that was backing in to an Acura dealership.

Greene, a resident of South Setauket, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, 57-year-old Azeddine Fridjat of Fairfield, Connecticut, was not injured in the accident.

The Ford was impounded for a safety check, while the tractor trailer was inspected at the scene by officers from the Motor Carrier Safety Section.

The accident is under investigation by Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident was asked to contact the Fourth Squad.
