Car accident on Long Island Expressway closes lanes for hours


PLAINVIEW, NY – A serious injury accident occurred on the westbound Long Island Expressway at approximately 12:25 p.m. near Exit 46 and Sunnyside Boulevard in Plainview.

The New York State Department of Transportation posted on their website that the accident was fatal; however, a police spokesperson said they could not confirm that someone died, according to Newsday. The cause of the accident or how many vehicles were involved has not been reported. The crash shut down several lanes on the LIE for hours while investigators were on the scene and responders worked to clear the wreckage.
