MANHATTAN, NY – An accident involving a taxi cab and a bicycle in Manhattan Monday afternoon left six people injured, WABC reported.
Police said the taxi driver was headed west on West 29th Street at about 1 p.m. and made a left turn onto Broadway, resulting in a collision in the intersection with a CitiBike.
The yellow cab then jumped the curb and struck multiple pedestrians on the sidewalk before colliding with a building. The New York Post reported that a group of about 20 bystanders helped to lift the cab off two female tourists who were trapped underneath it.
Three people were rushed by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where they were reported to be in critical condition. Two other people had injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The cab driver’s injuries were also not life-threatening.
The driver stayed at the scene following the crash. The NYPD is investigating the incident, which was believed to be accidental.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area due to road closures near the scene of the accident.
