BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – Six people were injured when they were struck by a vehicle that went onto a sidewalk in the Bronx early Sunday morning, according to the New York Post.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene in the area of 170th Street and Sheridan Avenue in the Claremont section after the incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. The victims, all members of the same family, were hit by a gray Jeep.
Rescuers managed to free a 60-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman who were pinned under the vehicle after the crash. The six people injured were transported to Lincoln Hospital. The woman was listed in critical condition while the others sustained minor injuries.
One family member told CBS2 New York the group had just returned from a gathering at a local park and were on the sidewalk when they saw the Jeep heading towards them.
The victims believed that they were intentionally targeted by the driver of the vehicle, police said. The driver and a passenger fled the area following the incident.
