BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – An accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway in the Bronx Friday night left two people dead and two others injured, WNBC reported.
The accident happened near the intersection with Rosedale Avenue shortly after midnight. Police said a flatbed truck was at the scene to tow a semi-truck that had become disabled along the highway.
The driver of a Mitsubishi Montero SUV was headed west at a high rate of speed when she tried to avoid colliding with the flatbed truck, then sideswiped a car and struck the semi.
The 33-year-old woman driving the SUV and a 41-year-old man who was her passenger both were killed in the wreck. Two back seat passengers, a 32-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, were hospitalized and were listed in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Portions of the Cross Bronx Expressway were shut down for nearly five hours overnight while crews worked the scene.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the cause of the accident.
