Diabetes Rates are Continuing to Increase

In the early 1990’s waiting rooms were filled with people suffering from the long-term complications of diabetes. Some would be blind, some would have amputations and others would be on kidney dialysis.

Although the rates are steadily increasing there is progress being made. Improvements continue to increase in diagnosis, drug treatment, blood sugar control and overall diabetes management.

“I am optimistic, but I do think the problem is going to get worse before it gets better,” says Ann Albright, director of the CDC’s diabetes division. Trying to prevent this spread of diabetes is the key but it will take time and effort.
