CaraMia R. Hart
CaraMia R. Hart is a senior medical malpractice attorney at Finz & Finz, P.C. Her legal career has focused upon trial advocacy, successfully trying complex medical malpractice cases to verdict. She is a zealous advocate who represents injured plaintiffs with determination, compassion, and effectiveness. On behalf of patients who have suffered serious physical injury or death due to medical negligence, Ms. Hart demands justice and obtains results.
Ms. Hart began her career in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney to the Honorable Robert M. Morgenthau. At that time, she prosecuted a broad range of violent and non-violent crime. At the D.A.’s Office, she worked with injured victims, managed caseloads, and successfully litigated jury trials to verdict.
Following her fulfilling work as a criminal prosecutor, but prior to joining the legal team at Finz & Finz, P.C., Ms. Hart shifted litigation gears to focus on complex civil claims involving medical malpractice at a highly regarded medical malpractice defense law firm. While working as a defense attorney, Ms. Hart won verdicts against skilled plaintiffs’ attorneys, and was promoted to partner. As a medical malpractice defense attorney, she worked with physicians, medical experts, insurance claims supervisors, and hospital risk management officers. She managed cases in diverse medical specialties including surgery, oncology, anesthesiology, orthopedics, radiology, emergency care, internal and family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry. Some of her trials received media attention. She presented high exposure cases to insurance companies and to hospital claims committees. Ms. Hart defended hospitals and physicians throughout the New York metropolitan region.
Although Ms. Hart was an accomplished medical malpractice defense attorney at a well respected law firm, there comes a time in everyone’s professional career where one reflects upon what they have achieved and what they hope to achieve in the future. Upon such reflection, it became apparent to Ms. Hart that she must employ her skills and experience to help victims who have suffered severe and life-changing injures due to medical malpractice. After making this decision, Ms. Hart sought out an injury law firm that had a sterling reputation as a plaintiff’s medical malpractice firm, where she could transition to representing victims instead of defending corporations, thereby fulfilling her strong desire to help those who need it most.
At Finz & Finz, P.C., Ms. Hart is committed to fighting for seriously injured victims of medical malpractice, and for their aggrieved families. She seeks justice on behalf of patients she is now privileged to represent, and compels physicians and hospitals to award substantial monetary damages when departures from proper medical practice cause physical harm.
Experienced in evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of medical malpractice cases from multiple perspectives, Ms. Hart is a senior trial attorney who tries high-exposure cases and conducts depositions, courtroom examinations and mediations with care and attention to detail. Ms. Hart’s litigation skills have been recognized by her peers. She is a member of the invitation-only American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and the Litigation Counsel of America. She has been recognized by New York Super Lawyers and is affiliated with multiple bar associations. She has served as a member on the Committee on the Judiciary of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, which reviews qualifications of judges and prospective judicial candidates. She has lectured about litigation techniques to the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She is an Executive Committee Member of the New York State Bar Association’s Trial Lawyers Section.
Ms. Hart previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York, Inc. and as its Secretary. In that capacity, she invited members of the judiciary to lecture about medical-legal topics to an audience of health care professionals committed to promoting good medical treatment and safe patient care. She also taught “Legal Reasoning, Writing & Research” for a time at New York Law School.
Ms. Hart graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College at Columbia University, having majored with distinction in American History. She received a juris doctor degree from New York Law School, where she participated in a federal litigation clinic. During her academic years, she participated in moot court and student government and conducted summer internships at the Legal Aid Society and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York.
When not litigating on behalf of her clients at Finz & Finz, P.C., Ms. Hart’s interests include politics, travel, and music, but what she most enjoys is spending time with her husband and three children.
