MASPETH, QUEENS – An accident in Maspeth, Queens last week claimed the life of a tractor-trailer driver, the New York Post reports.

The NYPD said the incident happened early Wednesday on Grand Avenue near 57th Street, where a tractor-trailer driver got out of his vehicle in the eastbound lane about 3 a.m.

At that point, the driver of a Chevy sedan lost control while heading west on Grand Avenue and swerved over the double yellow line.  The Chevy hit the truck driver and also struck his unoccupied vehicle.

The truck driver who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene.  Qns.com reports he was identified as 49-year-old Chad Hallenbeck of East Durham in upstate Greene County.

The driver of the Chevy, a 43-year-old woman, remained at the scene.  She sustained minor injuries and was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

No arrests were immediately made.  The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
