STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, NY – Two people were hospitalized following a car accident at a restaurant on Staten Island Friday afternoon, the Staten Island Advance reports.
The incident occurred at Nucci’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria on Arthur Kill Road in the Richmond Valley neighborhood of the borough. The driver of a Ford SUV crashed through the front window.
WABC reports that the driver of the vehicle was hurt but there were no injuries to anyone inside the restaurant. There was no word on what led to the crash.
The FDNY said one injured victim was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North while the other person was taken to Staten Island University Hospital South. No information was released on their conditions.
The restaurant released a statement on Facebook that read in part, “As many of you know, we had an unusual incident that happened tonight at Nucci’s the likes of which we have never seen and hope to never see happen again. We want you all to know that we are safe and strong. We pray for the full recovery of the driver.”
The restaurant added that it would remain open for business and operating as usual following approval from the city Buildings Department,
