New York City landlords have a duty to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition for the safety of their tenants. When a landlord violates that obligation, they can and should be held accountable. Here, after an investigation by Finz & Finz, P.C., it was determined that the landlord failed to maintain adequate lighting in the area of the entrance of the building and failed to install a proper handrail. Had the landlord complied with these simple requirements, the fall and resulting injury would not have occurred.

Although the defense advanced the argument that their building comported with the New York City building code, when pressed by the litigation initiated by our firm, the landlord had no choice but to back down and settle this case on our terms.
