This medical malpractice case was focused upon a 26-year-old woman who suffered from delayed diagnosis and treatment of acute limb ischemia by the defendant hospital and its physicians. Acute limb ischemia is a sudden, severe blockage of blood flow to a limb, causing rapid onset of symptoms, and constituting a vascular emergency. Had a proper and timely diagnosis been made, non-invasive anticoagulants could have been administered to restore proper blood flow to the limb. Instead, an unnecessary surgical thrombectomy was performed, which caused a reperfusion injury. This can occur when blood flow returns abruptly to an area previously deprived of oxygen. Our client was able to overcome her medical challenges, and has since married and returned to work.

Throughout the pre-trial stages of this litigation, defendants continuously refused to discuss settlement, and maintained a firm “no-pay” position. After extensive depositions, defendants also filed motions for summary judgment, which we successfully defeated. The case proceeded to a jury trial. Over the course of more than three weeks of trial, we called experts in the medical fields of emergency medicine, vascular surgery, and anesthesia/pain management, and the defense called multiple medical experts as well.

The jury found in favor of our client and awarded a verdict of $1,500,000.
