QUEENS, NEW YORK, NY – A man suspected to have been driving drunk is facing charges following a fatal crash at a car wash in Queens on Monday afternoon, according to WABC.
The accident took place at Crossbay Car Wash & Lube, located in the area of Cross Bay Boulevard and Gold Road in Ozone Park. Police said 54-year-old Tracie McManus of Howard Beach was waiting for her car to be finished and was outside by the exit at about 2 p.m. She was struck by another customer’s Jeep Liberty that was being driven by the car wash attendant, according to investigators.
McManus was pronounced dead after being transported to Jamaica Hospital. The attendant, identified as 43-year-old Edwin Vargas, slammed into a parked vehicle after hitting McManus.
Vargas was taken into custody and booked on several charges, including vehicular manslaughter and DWI. According to the Daily News, his blood-alcohol level was well above the legal limit at the time of the accident. He was arraigned Tuesday night and held on $50,000 bail.
