The accident happened as the woman was pushing a stroller with an 18-month old infant on the Cross Island Service Road near 150th Street in Whitestone. As she was in the crosswalk, she was hit by a white GMC pickup that was turning onto the service road just before 11:30 a.m.  Police said the driver may have been speeding at the time.

The woman was pronounced dead after being transported to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. She was identified in a Daily News report as 58-year-old Insook Rol. The child, reported to be Rol’s granddaughter, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was being treated at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Sources identified the truck driver as 43-year-old Angelo Graci of Whitestone, who stayed at the scene following the incident. He was arrested on several charges, including aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and failure to yield.
