COPIAGUE, LONG ISLAND – The Suffolk County District Attorney announced that a woman has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Aug. 24, 2021.
According to Newsday, 51-year-old Annmarie Donadeo of Copiague entered the plea Tuesday to charges of vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
The incident took place on Hawkins Boulevard in Copiague at about 9 p.m. Investigators said Donadeo was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer south when she slammed into a parked Hyundai Elantra. A man unloading toys from the back of the Elantra, 28-year-old Travis Kinard, was pinned against a minivan. Kinard was pronounced dead after being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. The Elantra and the minivan had both been parked in front of Kinard’s girlfriend’s house.
According to prosecutors, Donadeo had been drinking at a bar for several hours before getting behind the wheel that night. She failed a field sobriety test, and her blood alcohol level was measured at twice the legal limit. She will be sentenced in February and could face up to 12 years in prison.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney issued a statement that read, ““This tragedy could have been avoided if the defendant didn’t drive drunk, period. Instead, she chose to endanger Suffolk County residents through her selfish and senseless conduct and in the process caused the death of an innocent individual who was simply retrieving items from a parked vehicle.”
