Woman, 6-year-old boy struck by out-of-control vehicle on Harlem sidewalk

HARLEM, NEW YORK, NY – A vehicle struck a woman and child on a New York City sidewalk on Monday morning, according to the New York Post.

Police said the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control of the car while driving in the area of 145th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem at about 8:30 a.m. The car went onto a sidewalk and hit a 30-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy as they were walking, then hit a shop and several parked cars on the roadway. The two were taken to an area hospital, where they were reported to be in critical condition.  WNBC reported the victims were a mother and her son.

The 68-year-old driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene of the crash, and was then hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

The incident is under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation squad.  Police are trying to determine whether the driver suffered some type of medical episode prior to the accident.
