UPDATE: Off-duty Police Officer Injured in January Car Wreck in Queens Dies of Injuries


QUEENS, NY – The off-duty NYPD officer injured in a crash in St. Albans on January 17th died of his injuries on Thursday.

34-year-old Michael Ellis was hit at the intersection of Lucas Street and Nashville Boulevard by another driver who ran a stop sign. Ellis’ car then hit two parked cars and a nearby telephone pole, ejecting the officer from his vehicle.

Ellis was transported to Jamaica Hospital where he remained in critical condition until his death on Thursday. The crash is still under investigation.
