BROOKLYN, NY – A man in a pickup truck drove into a Sunset Park restaurant’s outdoor seating area on Tuesday evening, injuring three.

According to ABC 7 New York, the collision occurred at dusk on Tuesday, July 21. A 20-year-old man, who was driving without a license, crashed a pickup truck into the curbside dining area at L’Wren on 5th Avenue near 40th Street.

A surveillance video captured the truck slamming into the six-inch barriers between the dining area and the street. The force of the collision overturned multiple tables and threw several diners to the ground. The pickup’s driver attempted to flee the scene, but he was apprehended before he could leave.

Three people were injured and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The victims’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

L’Wren’s owner, Travis Klas, explained that the restaurant invested in sturdy barriers between the outdoor seating area and the street. He hoped that these barriers would be enough to protect his diners if a driver ever lost control and crashed.

The police charged the 20-year-old man with operating a vehicle without a license.
