Uber passenger dies when Lamborghini hits vehicle in Queens

QUEENS, NEW YORK, NY – A woman riding in the back of an Uber was killed when the car was struck by another vehicle in Queens Thursday night, NBC New York reports.

The vehicles collided in the area of 103rd Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park at about 7 p.m. According to the NYPD, the accident happened as the Uber driver was turning onto 103rd Avenue in a Toyota Camry. The car was struck by a Lamborghini Urus SUV.

The Uber passenger was identified as 54-year-old Ritawantee Persaud, who was pronounced dead after being transported to Jamaica Hospital.  The wreck caused the Lamborghini to overturn, but the driver managed to flee from the scene on foot and is now being sought by police.  The Camry ended up on a sidewalk next to a church.

The 50-year-old Uber driver and a 26-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Lamborghini were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Persaud worked as an accountant and was four blocks away from her home when the deadly crash occurred.

The accident is under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Unit and Homicide Squad.
