Truck driver charged after teenage pedestrian struck and killed in the Bronx

BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – Charges have been filed against the driver involved in a fatal pedestrian accident in the Bronx last week, according to a report in the New York Post.

The victim was a 16-year-old girl who was walking to school in the Morris Park section of the borough when the incident took place Wednesday morning at about 8 a.m.

Police said she was walking across Paulding Avenue at the intersection with Neill Avenue when she was hit by a delivery truck making a left turn onto Paulding Avenue. The teen was pronounced dead after being transported to Jacobi Medical Center.

The driver of the truck, identified as 46-year-old Joseph Zillitto, Jr. of the Bronx, remained at the scene following the crash.

Zillitto was subsequently charged with moving violations that included failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

The teenage victim lived about a block away from the scene.
