QUEENS, NEW YORK, NY – A teenager died after losing control of his car and crashing in Queens last week, according to WPIX.
The NYPD said the incident occurred Thursday afternoon as the 16-year-old boy was driving a Ford Mustang in the vicinity of 80th Avenue and 265th Street in Glen Oaks.
Investigators determined that the driver was going north on 80th Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. when he hit a tree on the side of the road and then crashed into another tree. The Daily News reported that the driver was speeding at the time the accident occurred and went through two stop signs before losing control.
The teen, a high school sophomore, was ejected from the car and was found unconscious in the street. He was transported by EMS to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The incident was reported to have happened about seven blocks away from his home.
Debris from the wrecked car struck a nearby fence and sign, along with several parked cars.
The NYPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the fatal wreck.
