BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – A suspected drunk driver is facing charges following a fatal crash in Brooklyn early Friday morning, reports the Daily News.

The accident occurred on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near the exit for Flushing Avenue at about 12:40 a.m.

Police say 22-year-old Chelsia Rety was driving east on the BQE in a two-door Scion when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier. A front-seat passenger was thrown from the vehicle and was found in the roadway by first responders. The passenger, a 23-year-old man whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

Rety and a 33-year-old back seat passenger were taken to Woodhull Hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.  Investigators said Rety’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, and she was charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.  All three lanes of the BQE eastbound were closed to traffic in the area while police investigated the crash.
