BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – A collision in Brooklyn Thursday morning killed a man riding a scooter, the Daily News reports.

The incident occurred on Caton Avenue near East 7th Street in the Kensington section of the borough at about 6:30 a.m. Police said the victim, identified as 27-year-old Federico Zaput Palas, was riding his scooter in the same direction as a dump truck when both attempted to maneuver around a vehicle that was double-parked on the street.

The scooter crashed into the dump truck and Palas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Palas, a Flatbush resident, was a deliveryman for a  restaurant in the neighborhood. Relatives said he had stayed at the home of a friend after his Wednesday night shift and was heading home when the accident occurred.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene following the crash, and no charges had been filed as of Thursday. The NYPD is continuing its investigation.
