WEST FARMS, BRONX, NY – Police said a pedestrian was struck and killed in the Bronx Friday night by a hit-and-run driver, WCBS reports.

The victim was a woman in her 30s who was trying to walk across West Farms Road near East Tremont Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle going at a high rate of speed. Investigators said she was not in a designated crosswalk at the time.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was found lying in the roadway. Witnesses believe she may have been hit by a second vehicle. She was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

The NYPD said the driver involved left the scene after the crash and is now being sought. The vehicle was described as a white van.

The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident and so far there have been no arrests.
