BRONX, NY – A man was killed on Sunday night after rear-ending another vehicle and starting a chain-reaction crash that injured six others.

The New York Daily News reports that the accident occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. on June 22. A 35-year-old man in a 2010 Toyota Camry lost control of his vehicle while traveling west on City Island Road, near its intersection with Shore Road.

The Toyota Camry rear-ended a 2014 Infiniti Q50, which began a chain reaction of vehicle collisions. A 27-year-old man in the Infiniti then crashed into the back of a 2008 Toyota Highlander.

The Camry subsequently crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a 44-year-old man in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that was traveling in the eastbound lane. The force of the collision caused both the Camry and the Jeep to spin and collide with a 2010 BMW X5.

Police pronounced the driver in the Camry dead at the scene. A 34-year-old woman in the Camry’s front passenger seat was critically injured and was rushed to Jacobi Medical center for treatment.  Information about the woman’s current condition is not available at this time.

Five other people who were riding in the Jeep Cherokee and the Infiniti Q50 were injured in the accident. They were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The 51-year-old man in the Toyota Highlander and the 41-year-old man driving the BMW both refused medical treatment at the scene.
