The victim was identified as 30-year-old Ryan McKenna of Hicksville, a member of the force since 2015. Suffolk County Police investigators said he was driving a Nissan Frontier pickup truck east on the LIE near Exit 53 in Brentwood when the accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m.

McKenna’s vehicle hit a median and flipped in the carpool lane. Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol units at the scene found him trapped inside the vehicle after it overturned, WABC reported.

McKenna was pronounced dead after being transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. The NYPD said he had been assigned to the Woodside Houses public housing complex in Queens.

The pickup truck was impounded for a safety check, as the crash remains under investigation.
