CENTRAL PA – The National Weather Service placed a snow squall warning on New York City around 3:30 PM on Wednesday. The squall, an intense, short burst of heavy snowfall, arrived in the city around 4 PM.
Snow squalls can create deadly conditions on the roads, and the impact of the snow squall went far beyond New York City limits. Icy roads led to a 30 truck pileup on Interstate 80 in central Pennslyvania on Thursday. At least two drivers were killed, and dozens others were injured. 34 miles of the interstate remained closed until Thursday afternoon.
