BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – A multi-vehicle accident on a Brooklyn highway Friday afternoon left a total of 11 people injured, according to WABC.

The incident happened on the Prospect Expressway near 4th Avenue in the Windsor Terrace section of the borough. It began when the drivers of a Mercedes-Benz and a Ford SUV got into an accident shortly before 2 p.m. and pulled over to the side of the road to exchange information. A third vehicle that police say was being driven erratically then slammed into the two cars. That led to a chain-reaction collision that involved four other vehicles, including an MTA bus.

The driver of the third vehicle was reported to have been taken into custody with charges pending.

Among those who were injured, NBC New York reported that at least five people had suffered serious or potentially life-threatening injuries.  At least two people were pinned between a car and a guardrail.

The westbound Prospect Expressway was closed near the scene of the crash, with traffic diverted onto the 18th Street service road while crews were clearing away the wreckage.
