Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision with dump truck in Amityville

AMITYVILLE, LONG ISLAND – Police on Long Island were at the scene of a collision between a motorcycle and a dump truck last week, according to a report by Lindenhurst Patch.

The incident took place on Sunrise Highway in Amityville Wednesday afternoon at about 3:15 p.m. According to Suffolk County Police, a man was riding a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on the roadway when he crashed into the back of a 2020 AUTC dump truck that was stopped for a red light in front of 200 Sunrise Highway.

The motorcycle rider, a 37-year-old resident of Lindenhurst, was seriously injured in the wreck and was transported in an ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.  The driver of the dump truck, a 49-year-old man from Brentwood, was not injured.

Police said the motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.  The truck was inspected at the scene by officers with the Motor Carrier Safety Section.

The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with further information about what happened was asked to contact Suffolk County Police First Squad Detectives.
