ROCKAWAY BEACH, QUEENS, NY – Police say a motorcycle rider left the scene of a crash in Queens on Monday afternoon that left his passenger dead and a pedestrian injured, according to a report in the New York Post.
The accident took place along the boardwalk near Beach 47th Street in Rockaway Beach. Police said a 25-year-old motorcyclist was operating a Qipai Hunier Dirt Bike when he lost control shortly after 3 p.m. The bike crashed into a bench and then hit a 55-year-old male pedestrian.
The passenger on the motorcycle was thrown from the bike onto the ground, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 26-year-old David Molina of Cedarhurst, Long Island. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries in the collision and was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for treatment.
Police said the driver of the motorcycle left the scene on foot and is still being sought as the NYPD continues its investigation.
The report noted that no motorized or electric bikes, scooters or ATVs are permitted along the boardwalk.
