FOREST PARK, QUEENS, NY – Police said a woman died after the car she was riding in was involved in a head-on collision in Forest Park, Queens Sunday night, according to WPIX.
Investigators determined 21-year-old Daniel Aguirre was driving a Toyota Corolla on Park Lane South when he drifted over the double yellow lines while navigating a turn.
The Corolla collided with a Toyota Camry near Mayfair Road at about 11 p.m. 22-year-old Maria Fernanda, who was sitting in the back seat of the Corolla, was taken to Jamaica University Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Aguirre and Fernanda’s 3-year-old son, who was also riding in the back, was not injured. All three occupants of the Corolla were pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue squads.
Aguirre and the 44-year-old man driving the Camry sustained minor injuries.
Police said Aguirre, a resident of Stamford Connecticut, was intoxicated at the time of the accident and he now faces several charges, including vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
