Man, woman dead after fiery crash on Southern State Parkway in Islip

ISLIP, LONG ISLAND, NY – New York State Police have released details of a fatal car accident that took place on Long Island early Monday morning.

The state police issued a news release on the incident that occurred on the Southern State Parkway in Islip.

State troopers responded to the scene near exit 40 following a report of a one-car crash at about 1:14 a.m.  The troopers arrived to find a Land Rover against a tree on the highway’s south side shoulder fully engulfed in flames.

An initial investigation found that 45-year-old Travis T. Williams was driving the Land Rover eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and collided with a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.  His passenger, 35-year-old Shenella Braithwaite, was pronounced dead after being transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.  Both were residents of Central Islip.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the North Babylon Fire Department and North Babylon EMS.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck is ongoing.
