QUEENS, NEW YORK – Prosecutors said a man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal accident in Queens, according to WNBC.
36-year-old Jason Bical of Brooklyn was charged in the incident that took place Dec. 9, 2020 on the Belt Parkway near 131st Street at about 12:45 a.m. Bical was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu when he struck a motorist who had stopped for a minor accident.
The victim, 63-year-old Taher Ali Hassan, was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said that Bical was driving 92 miles an hour just before the crash on the highway where the posted speed limit is 50 miles an hour. Investigators determined that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and that he also had cocaine and marijuana in his system at the time the incident occurred. Two bags of cocaine were found in the console of the car that was registered to Bical’s family-owned business.
Bical pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, and will face a sentence of five to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 13.
