BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – A man riding an e-bike was killed in a crash on a street in the Bronx last week, according to the New York Post.

The accident happened in the area of East 149th Street and Brook Avenue in the borough’s Mott Haven section last Thursday at about 1:50 a.m.

Police said the man was riding at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of a parked Toyota Highlander sport utility vehicle.

The victim, who officials said was not wearing a helmet at the time, was pronounced dead at Lincoln Medical Center.

The Daily News reports the man was identified as Juan Licurgo Cruz, a worker at a Bronx restaurant. His wife Carmela Parra said the fatal crash occurred on Cruz’s 29th birthday.

The Daily News report said that video showed Cruz riding in a bus lane when he went off course and crashed into the SUV.

Parra said Cruz had been on his way home from work and had stopped off to visit a friend prior to the accident.
