MOUNT VERNON, WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY – Prosecutors have announced an indictment in the case of a single-vehicle car crash in Westchester County last year that left three people dead, according to NBC New York.
This is an update to a previous story.
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said 20-year-old Yordany Bautista Hernandez of the Bronx was indicted on three counts of second-degree manslaughter and three counts of criminally negligent homicide. The accident occurred September 25 on the Cross County Parkway in Mount Vernon. Bautista Hernandez was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit a guardrail and flipped, police said.
Three passengers in the Camry, ages 24, 22, and 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. Bautista Hernandez was not seriously injured. Investigators said he was going 119 miles an hour at the time in a 50 miles an hour zone.
Rocah issued the following statement, “This tragedy has caused enormous sadness and pain for the families and loved ones of the three victims. We hope that our efforts to hold the driver accountable for his reckless actions will help bring them some peace and closure.”
Bautista Hernandez was arraigned Tuesday and taken to the Westchester County Jail.
