Man charged with DWI in Long Island Expressway collision that left 4 injured

MANORVILLE, LONG ISLAND, NY – A suspected drunk driver was arrested following a crash on Long Island Monday morning that left four people injured, according to Riverhead Local.

The incident took place on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 70 in Manorville shortly after 4 a.m. Police said 23-year-old Segundo Daquilema Lluilema was driving a Toyota Corolla west on the LIE when he changed lanes and hit the back of a Toyota Highlander. The impact caused the Highlander to go off the roadway and overturn.

A passenger in the Highlander was seriously injured and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. The driver of the Highlander sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

A passenger in the Corolla was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, while another passenger in the Corolla sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was treated at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Daquilema Lluilema, a resident of Corona, Queens, was charged with driving while intoxicated. The two vehicles involved in the crash were impounded for safety checks.

The westbound lanes of the LIE east of Exit 70 were shut down for several hours while the wreckage was being cleared and the scene investigated.
