EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN, NY – A man alleged to have been driving drunk was involved in a crash that critically injured a young girl in Brooklyn, reports the New York Post.
The accident happened early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Kings Highway and East 92nd Street in East Flatbush. Police said 53-year-old Marcos Portorreal was behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer when he made a left turn onto East 92nd Street at about 1 a.m. The Explorer crashed into a Range Rover that was going north on Kings Highway.
Portorreal’s 9-year-old niece was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center, where she was listed in critical condition with head and leg injuries. Three other female passengers in the vehicle, two 46-year-olds and a 28-year-old, sustained minor injuries.
Portorreal was charged with driving while intoxicated. WABC reports the driver of the Range Rover, 40-year-old Garth Morris, was also arrested and was charged with driving while ability impaired. Morris suffered minor injuries.
