EAST ELMHURST, QUEENS – Authorities announced an arrest in the case of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred in Queens on Sept. 1.
According to WNBC, 40-year-old Xavier Carchipull of Astoria is facing several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and driving without a license. The crash took place in the area of 100th Street and McIntosh Street in East Elmhurst at about 5:30 p.m. Investigators said a 5-year-old boy was trying to cross the street with his father and siblings after leaving a playground when he was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Carchipull as he made a turn.
The boy was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead. The accident happened about two blocks from the family’s McIntosh Street home.
Carchipull allegedly left the scene after the accident and was arrested last week at his Astoria home.
The Daily News reported that he has been arrested eight times previously since 2005, including twice for drunk driving.
