MINEOLA, LONG ISLAND, NY – Police on Long Island are investigating the death of the father of rapper Nicki Minaj in a hit-and-run crash.
Newsday reports 64-year-old Robert Maraj was killed in the accident Friday night in Mineola. According to Nassau County Police investigators, Maraj was walking in the area of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle at about 6:15 p.m. The unidentified vehicle left the scene following the crash. No description of the vehicle was immediately released.
Maraj was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead on Saturday.
As of Monday morning, Minaj had not yet spoken publicly regarding the death of her father. The rapper, who was born in Trinidad, grew up in South Jamaica, Queens.
The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad is conducting an investigation into the incident. Police were asking anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward with information.
